Inspired by the 19th-century cyanotypes, Shadowgraphs is a durable textile intended for a variety of contract uses, including corporate, hospitality, and commercial. Cyanotypes were achieved by coating paper with a solution of iron salts, placing a plant specimen on the paper, then exposing it to sunlight before rinsing it with water. Available in four patterns (Maidenhair, Sprayrose, Arbor, and Savannah) and 39 colorways, Shadowgraphs reproduces the effect of silhouetted garden motifs set against dark backgrounds on fabric made of polyester/rayon or polyester/cotton blends.

Veranda, which also has a double rub rating of 50,000, is a herringbone wool/cotton/polyester blend. Pallas product: Tradewinds Collection
manufacturer: Pallas
web:
pallastextiles.com

The four textures in Pallas's new Tradewinds Collection designed by Lori Weitzner—Billows, Breeze, Whisk, and Thunder—employ innovative weaves that evoke movement instead of just displaying a woven pattern. Thunder employs an extra chunky yarn to create a "rumbling" surface; Billows uses two dupioni yarns that when combined form an irregular texture; and Breeze shows off a striped topography created by combining thick and thin bouclé yarns. These jacquard textiles come in a variety of bright colors as well as neutrals, and meet or exceed ACT standards for heavy-duty contract upholstery fabric.

The collection's three patterns—Format, Sequence (left), and Motive—feature evocative renditions of stripes, rectangles, and "buzzing squares" that are whimsical but also durable. Colorfast, pilling-resistant, able to withstand harsh cleaning agents, and equipped with a light acrylic backing, each design is available in eight different colorways.
